Newsletter – April 2015

Brethren, here are a few news items and reminders for you.

We had a nice turnout for the Heroes Breakfast Saturday morning. We had 23 firefighter/EMT folks and two police officers, including our own Bill Brown. Many thanks to all those that helped, especially Dallas Ayres and Steve Frykholm, who stuck around for the hardest part – the cleanup.

Also, thanks to Dallas for doing some mowing last Wednesday. We are headed back out today, Sunday, to do it again because it has grown so fast with all the rain, leaving little time to get it done. We are still looking for volunteers to help out, so if you have a little slice of time, please lend a hand.

Good news from the Texas Masonic Charities Foundation! Our application for marching scholarship funds was granted, so we will be receiving a check from TMCF soon for $2,000 to add to the $2,000 recently awarded to the four Richardson Lamar Award recipients. The TMCF is running at a deficit right now, so they will be presenting a campaign soon to make up the difference. Without them, we would not be able to double our scholarships, so please consider sending them a little contribution. I believe it is tax-deductible.

Some of you Past Masters were missed at our recent Past Masters night. We had a good time, with some tasty BBQ from Dickey’s.

Prior to our May stated meeting, we will have an open meeting to hand out service pins and certificates, so please come to honor those brothers receiving pins.

We now have our Traveling Gavel back, having made a trip to Garland Lodge recently during their stated meeting. We had 12 Brothers present, easily edging out another lodge of 8 who came to try to get the gavel on the same night. We can probably expect a “visit” form one of these lodges in the future to re-capture the gavel.

Remember that this coming Wednesday, April 29th, Grand Master Wiggins will be making his official visit to the 14th Masonic District at the MWSA meeting at Hella Shrine. This will be an open meeting at 7:30 with dinner preceding. Check with the secretary for meal tickets.

Fraternally,
Brian McGauley, WM
