Worshipful Master’s Update – August 2014

Greetings from the East, Brethren, after having survived the first month of this new Masonic year largely intact. We’ve had to re-schedule our 1214 Retreat because of your Master not being very masterful and taking a fall, enduring some problems as a result, but now on the mend. We’ll announce a new date soon.

We had the pleasure of welcoming a new Brother into the fraternity recently. In addition, we have several others already working to complete their EA proficiency work, so we expect to have some Fellowcraft degrees coming up soon. As soon as as degrees are scheduled, and with thanks to Sr. Warden Donnye Winship, we are able to send out announcements to everyone directly to their e-mail inboxes.

On a sadder note, we recently lost Brother Francis Exum Williamson, who passed away on July 17th. His service was Tuesday, July 22nd. Brother Williamson’s 65-year pin had recently arrived from Grand Lodge, and will be sent to his family. His wife preceded him in death.

We also recently lost Brother Lawrence A. “Larry” Phipps, Sr., born 06/30/1922, Passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2014. This did not appear in the paper until last week.

Please try to attend our next stated meeting on Tuesday, August 5th. This will mark the second official visit by R:.W:. Thomas Van Hoose, our District Deputy Grand Master. Dinner at 6:30, Stated Meeting at 7:30.

Larry Fitzpatrick’s talk has been re-scheduled to our November stated meeting, so mark that on your calendars. Also, I’m working on organizing an open meeting before our December stated meeting to welcome a special guest speaker. More details as that is firmed up.

Lastly, I am going to propose an amendment to our by-laws to establish an investment committee, who’s charge will be to ensure that our savings accounts are safely earning interest and dividends as a hedge against inflation, while minimizing risk. This will be presented at our next stated meeting and voted on the following meeting.

Fraternally,
Brian McGauley WM
